What are life skills?

Life skills are those traits, characteristics, talents and abilities that are inborn or developed throughout our lifetimes. Some of us are born with innate abilities to sing, dance, draw, or paint; we develop these skills very easily. Others may try to develop similar skills and find the challenge much tougher and sometimes unattainable. There are those individuals who have a way with words and seem to know what to say and when to say it. Others of us may spend a lifetime trying to become good communicators. Compassion, sharing and caring about one's own and others well being are often times minimized; yet these skills are invaluable. Everyone has skills; some inborn, while others like typing, web design and such can be developed by training.

Organization skills can be utilized by a homemaker or an office manager to ensure the family or company stay on task and get the ultimate satisfaction from daily life. Good communication skills are a must in any walk of life. No salesman will ever make a worthwhile sale without good listening skills. "Find A Need And Fill It." is not just a clever title for my next book--it is a must when we identifying any type of needs. Yes, math skills can keep us from being overdrawn at the bank or assist us in budgeting money for a rainy day. Although, we all have skills, the real challenge is to acknowledge those skills and find ways to implement them into our life.

My interest in life skills developed because I thought I didn't have any. It was my belief that skills were limited to specific tasks or professions. It was not until I got out into "the real world" that I realized the unlimited skills we all possess and take for granted. For example, individuals who decorate the interior of their homes may exhibit the skill level of those professional designers and decorators outside the home setting. They may say they have no skills; yet, with little guidance and direction could be excellent as a professional interior designer.

What does a Life Skills Consultant do?

Basically a life skills consultant is a guide, coach who leads you to increased awareness of current and past life skills. Then, together you can develop a plan to utilize existing skills and/or explore ways to develop new skills to enhance your daily life. It's an interesting way to take an in depth look at past activities and professions that you may or may not have enjoyed in the past. Often times we can get busy making a living and forget to create the life that will benefit ourselves and others. We may put specific talents and abilities on hold not realizing how they reflect our life's mission. Utilizing your unique skills, being you, is the path to real joy.

You can learn a little about my skills, past reflections, and self-growth in two,
"Remember To Remember"
books, from a series of five.

"Remember to Remember: Life Lessons Too Important To Forget"
"Remember to Remember: The Rest Of The Story"

Writing is a therapeutic tool that increased my awareness and utilizes one of my life skills. So whether it's writing a book, a poem, a song or uncovering your past or existing skills, why not let me, "help you-help yourself"? It will be an interesting, fun adventure to be sure!
